- I have an Amiga 4000 with a Maxtor 7850 850 Meg IDE drive on the internal
- controller. It works fine, but when I turn on the machine for the first
- time, the Kickstart screen (Reddish, with a hand inserting a floppy disk)
- comes up almost immediately. It's clearly not waiting for the hard drive to
- spin up. I know this is a bit of a problem on drives that take a while to
- spin up, but with an earlier configuration it waited longer. My current
- theory is that it checks for the existence of a hard drive, then if one
- exists it waits a while, then checks if it's ready. For some reason the
- machine doesn't notice the hard drive at boot up, so it doesn't wait for it
- at all.
-
- Can anybody help here? I can use the machine just fine by doing a warm boot
- as soon as the drive spins up, but that shouldn't be necessary. Anybody know
- of a better way around this?
